during the 1850s and 60s, The cencus takers all chose to spell LarsOn as LarsEn. This reflected the fact that most Norweigian people used the sEn spelling as in LarsEn. sOn was mostly the swedish spelling. The reason many Norweigians used the Swedish spelling is due to the swedish occupation and rule over Norway for a period of time. It seems that it was required for the population to use the Swedish spelling.
Knud Jgeilo Larson is the correct spelling. It is on his tombstone, and also in the church records in Winchester Wi.
There is a town in Norway spelled Geilo near the Valdres area where dad said Knud came from. it is my belief that Knud came from a farm in or near Geilo Norway.

Merritt was always large and very strong. as a boy, he was working on the family farm and also logging during slack time. loved telling stories to G.kids. Paul bunyon was a favorite story. never came out the same. also talked about living near the Wi. River, and the Indian camp nearby. He was strong as an ox, but very quiet. He could talk to cows and other animals like they were human, and they usually did what he asked of them. When Maggie scolded him he would out to the barn, and you would hear him telling all the anamals his troubles.
